Imphal, December 11 2015 :
Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Friday stated that the State Government is planning to develop Bishnupur market under the Smart City initiative.
He was speaking at the one-day Youth Congress Conference organised by Bishnupur Block Youth Congress Committee at Kiyamba Ningsing Sanglen, Bishnupur.
Attending the conference as Chief Guest, Gaikhangam mentioned that Bishnupur occupies an important place in the State as Keibul-Lamjao, which is the only home of Sangai, the brow-antlered deer and Loktak Lake among others are located in the district.
"Plan is underway to develop Bishnupur market under Smart City initiative and land will be needed for the mission.
There will be further research on finding the correct location for developing such a market under smart city programme", said Gaikhangam.
He also mentioned that the road connecting Bishnupur with Rengpang is also under construction and it is expected to be completed by 2017 .

Noting that principle of secularism is needed in a country like India where different communities are living together, Gaikhangam pointed out that the Congress is a political party which ardently believes in secularism.
"People need to remain alert of political parties like BJP that incites communal feelings.
Since the party came into power in Centre, it has intervened even into the private realm of consuming one's own food in some States and people will face a lot of difficulties if such communal party remains in power at the Centre for long", alleged Gaikhangam.
Appealing the people of the State to be united and work together for a peaceful and developed Manipur, Gaikhangam also called on all to fight those elements who wished to disintegrate Manipur.
"Few sections of people who only want to bring darkness in the State also exist.
They are always against the brighter side of the society and people need to understand these sections and fight together against them", added the deputy CM.
Attending the conference as President, Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam stated that people of Manipur, where different communities have been living together since time immemorial, need to promote varied cultures and traditions of the State.
People need to walk together hand-in-hand to strengthen the ties between hills and valley communities, he stressed.
