Unconditional release of detained protestors demanded

Demanding unconditional release of 22 protestors detained in connection with the protest at Kakwa on Tuesday, large number of people attempted to storm Singjamei police station on Wednesday.
The protesters, including women, marched towards Singjamei police station, chanting slogans demanding unconditional release of 22 detained protesters.
However, the police responded by firing tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
As the protest continued, two individuals - a man and a woman - suffered injuries.
As the evening wore on, the protest escalated into a fierce standoff between the protesters and the security forces resulting in RAF and state police firing tear gas shells in a bid to disperse the protestors as the latter retaliated with stone pelting and firing slingshots.
During the protest at Kakwa on Tuesday, five personnel including 104 RAF deputy commandant sustained injury from slingshot and stone pelting.
Demanding immediate unconditional release of the students arrested by the police during the agitation for handing over of chairman of the Unified Command to the chief minister, meira paibi groups along with the locals also blocked one side of NH-102 at Melaground Lamkhai of Thoubal on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters during the agitation, a meira paibi condemned arrest of the student protesters as they launched the agitation to defend Manipur.
All the arrested students should be released unconditionally failing which intense form of agitation will be launched, she warned while adding that there will be total shut down of Thoubal market on Thursday.
On the other hand, 12 people suffered injuries in tear gas shelling during a protest at Nagamapal and Wahengbam Leikai late on Tuesday evening.
During the protest, the protestors torched a police booth and other structures, apart from blocking the roads by placing logs.
