JSCC appeals to end admission impasse in catholic schools

The Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC) of six students' bodies of the state, namely AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS, has appealed to the State Government and Catholic Educational Society, Manipur (CESM) to spell out a clear cut stance to end the impasse in the admission process of Class-I in Little Flower School, Nirmalabas School, Catholic School and St Joseph School.
According to a statement of the JSCC issued by its convenor Th Premananda, the Committee has been urging the authorities of Catholic schools to conduct lottery instead of written test for admission to Class-I.The Director of CESM was also requested not to conduct the written test.
The volunteers of JSCC even resorted to locking up the schools when the CESM suddenly made an announcement for conducting admission test.
Thereafter, the admission process of Class-I in these four schools was put on hold.
The JSCC has demanded the school authorities to conduct the admission lottery in a transparent manner by giving full details of reservation beforehand to the public.
It further said that a meeting between JSCC and CESM was convened on January 27 last month to chalk out an amicable solution to end the impasse.

However, a report in a local TV channel that the lottery for admission to Class-I in the four Catholic schools has been put on hold due to the inference by some organizations which are demanding their quotas in the admission.
In order to end the admission impasse and ensure right to education to the children, the JSCC has appealed to the authorities concerned to take a final decision on the issue of admission in the Catholic schools.
Meanwhile, reacting to a news report in a local TV channel regarding the Class-I admission process of the four catholic schools, the Catholic Educational Society, Manipur (CESM) has clarified that the Society has not released any "news or admission policy" regarding the Catholic-run schools to any media.
The official information would be released only from the office of CESM, a statement said.
