Imphal, November 10 2014:
Social Welfare minister AK Mirabai today appealed to all parents not to allow their children who are below 18 years of age to use mobile phones and drugs, but the minister insisted that NGOs, social organisations and women bodies like 'meira paibis' (women folks) should give equal weight to the efforts to check crimes against women and children.
Expressing concern over the increasing crime against women and children in Manipur, she assured that she would consult the Chief Minister on devising a strict law to punish such criminals.
Manipur has shaken by endless crimes committed against women and children notwithstanding efforts from all corners to curb them, Mirabai told Newmai News Network.
She said if such crimes continue to bother the people, there would be no hope for bringing a good society.
She said the state Commission for Women has also been working very hard to control such crimes and suggested that all concerned working for this objective need to take up a holistic approach.
"I think a stringent law is now needed to deal with the increasing crimes against women and children in Manipur.
In this regard, I'll consult Chief Minister O Ibobi," Mirabai assured.
