National Himalayan Day celebrated in Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi, September 10 2018:
As part of the nationwide celebration of National Himalayan Day, Kangpokpi District also joined the nation by celebrating the Himalayan day at FEEDS Centre, Hengbung village.
The National Himalayan Day celebration was organized by National Mission on Himalayan Studies and Lead Botanic Garden which was supported by MoEF & CC, Government of India in collaboration with FEEDS and the local people.
Hundreds of student community across the district apart from students of Cornerstone Academy, Pallel, Tengnoupal District and NM School, Chandel District took part in the celebration.
Arnold K Pavei, JRF attended the celebration as resource person and interacted with the student community.
The celebration dedicated to the protection and conservation of the Himalayas was organized with an aim to spread the message of conservation of the Himalayan ecosystems while stressing on the needs to address environmental and social problems in the Himalayas region and the necessities to understand and tackle the livelihood issues in the Himalayan region and work towards conservation of the region.
It also deliberated upon the role of Himalaya in species endemism and species migration and emphasis on the availability of water, pure air and soil in India because of the presence of great Himalaya as a boundary to the country in north while exhorting upon the younger generation to revisit the subject carefully because the origin of Himalaya is very complicated and its sustenance is required for the life of whole of the Indian sub-continent.
