Imphal, August 10 2024:
BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson MLA Kh Ibomcha has stated that the walkout staged by opposition MLAs during Friday's session of Manipur Legislative Assembly is simply an attempt to portray the government in bad light while trying at gain political mileage at the same time.
On Friday, five opposition MLAs staged a walkout protesting against the non-admittance of a private member resolution in the day's business.
The private member resolution was introduced by former chief minister and CLP leader 0 Ibobi during zero hour, calling for the House to adopt a resolution to meet Prime Minister Modi for bringing an amicable solution to the 15-month long violence.
In a press meet held at MLA Usham Deben's quarter in Babupara on Friday afternoon, MLA Ibomcha said that Congress party is one of the oldest, responsible parties in the country, having formed consecutive governments in both the state and Centre.
For a former chief minister, who successively held the mantle for 15 years, to urge for adopting a resolution to seek a meeting with PM Modi, greatly affects the dignity of the House.
Mentioning the CM's statements during the discussion of demand of grants for police on August 8 where he informed the House he would be sending a written request for an appointment with the PM, MLA Ibomcha said that the opposition's push for adopting a resolution to get an appointment with the PM, is a deliberate attempt to prolong the violence.
Both the opposition and ruling need to keep aside the differences to end this conflict, he asserted.
He continued that the government has been trying to end the conflict and the issue has been repeatedly discussed since the current Assembly session began.
Even the PM has spoken about the conflict.
However, Congress has been misinterpreting and trying to portray the government in bad light at all junctures.
The government's stand is to identify and deport illegal immigrants, stop deforestation and poppy plantation, protect reserved forests and implement NRC in the state.
The Central government has already scrapped FMR and plans to begin border fencing, while AR is also slowly being withdrawn.
Additionally, a House Committee has been formed to identify illegal immigrants.
Meanwhile, Congress has yet to make its stand clear on the matter of NRC, Ibomcha remarked.
Mentioning the aim to end the conflict in the 100-days programme of the third term of Modi Government, the MLA said that that state government is not staying idle but been pushing for the matter to be translated into action.
Thus, he urged for all to cooperate in restoring peace in the state.
MLA S Rajen, who also attended the press meet, said that the conflict is being discussed almost daily in the on-going Assembly session.
As such, it would not be wrong to say that the opposition is trying to gain some political mileage as the session draws near to end, he remarked.
