All Congress MPs from North East opposes CAB: Dr Meinya

Lok Sabha MP Dr Thokchom Meinya has claimed that all the Congres s MPs from the North East vehemently opposed to the Citizenship AmendmentBill 2016 and walked out of the Parliament when the Bill was passed.
He made the statement during the inauguration of a community hall at IWSC Ground, Khumbong Awang Sabal.
Speaking at the event, he conveyed that the Congress MPs and the Trinamool MPs had opposed the Bill tooth and nail reasoning that it would destroy the North East region as well as the indigenous people of the area.
When the Bill was produced in the Parliament, all the MPs of the North East opposed it and appealed for in depth review of the Bill by the Joint Parliamentary Committee.
However, as the Bill was passed, the Congress and Trinamool MPs boycotted the Bill and walked out of the House, he added.
Meinya claimed that he, as an MP, is totally against the passing of the Bill by the Lok Sabha and all the MPs of the North East share his thoughts as well.
He then explained that the Bill needs to be passed by the Rajya Sabha for it to become tangible and added that the Bill might be brought up in the Rajya Sabha after Republic Day orduring February session.
Ex MLA K Sharat Singh, president of IWSC Khumbong, O Samarendra Singh, Member of Yurembam Z/P Th Nilamani Singh were also present at the event.
