Imphal, June 09 2024: The chief minister's secretariat has sought report from the home department regarding security measures in Jiribam district, action taken on instructions to prevent untoward incident in the district and on how the violence flared up in Jiribam district, if adequate action had been taken.

In a communique addressed to DGP and commissioner-cum-secretary (home II) despatched Sunday with copies of the same sent to the chief secretary and the security advisor, Ningthoujam Geoffrey, who is secretary to chief minister N Biren, requested the state home department to submit the report by June 11.Notably, the chief minister's secretariat had issued instructions thrice this year on January 15, 27 and 31, regarding measures to be initiated in Jiribam district.

In the first instruction, the secretariat expressed concern over report of movement of around 200 armed Kuki-Zo militants from Churachandpur and reached Phaitol village, Old and New Kaiphundai area of Tamenglong district bordering Jiribam district, and suggested the DGP to take all necessary security measures to prevent any untoward incident as well as respond to threats posed by the group in view of the prevailing situation in the state.

Copies of the same instruction were also sent to chief secretary and Jiribam DC as well as SP.

In the second instruction on January 27, 2024, it referred to three incidents of gun-fire in Jiribam on December 31, 2023, January 1, 2024 and on January 21, 2024 .

Further, considering the reports of movement of armed miscreants from Churachandpur towards Vangai Range bordering areas of Jiribam, the secretariat requested the DGP to take adequate measures to pre-empt spread of the current law & order situation to Jiribam district and to take up effective counter-measures including domination of strategic locations using central forces/state forces.

The instruction also mentioned that ITLF is considering cutting off supply lines to Imphal via Jiribam.

Copies of the same instruction were also sent to security advisor, chief secretary and SP Jiribam.

In the third instruction, the CM secretariat while mentioning report of possibility of attempt to loot arms and ammunition of 7 IRB located in Jiribam district requested police department to take all necessary steps.

The instruction was addressed to security advisor and DGP and copies of the same to chief secretary and DC Jiribam.

Additionally, SP Jiribam had on January 21, 2024 sought immediate deployment of two companies of CAPF for elaborate security deployment at Jiribam and Borobekra sub-divisions for maintaining law & order in the wake of three incidents of gun-fire at Durgapur (Lamtai Khunou) on December 31, 2023, January 1, 2024 and on January 21, 2024 .
