Newsprint torching, inefficient DGP aired in assembly

Keishamthong MLA Sapam Nishikant brought up the incident of burning consignment of newsprint in Kangpokpi district during the zero hour of the ongoing session of the assembly on Thursday.
Citing report from the driver, MLA revealed that the truck was waylaid near a gate in Motburig area by around 25 KNF cadres who took materials not related with media in a DI.
Transporters tried calling the SP but did not picked up the call.
The truck was sent by Naga Traders' Union and the incident occurred despite the adequate presence of Central security forces near the WWII memorial site Sekmai, he said while drawing attention of the House to direct the Central security forces to be diligent in their duties and act responsibly.
The MLA further said that there were 33 rolls of newsprint.
According to an officer of Assam Rifles, around 14 reels have been burnt, he said while urging the government to recover the unburnt reels.
He also urged the CM to formulate an effective roadmap and policies to resolve the crisis.
Thursday's sitting was also marked by opposition MLA Okram Surjakumar pointing his fingers at DGP Rajiv Singh, who was seated in the officers' gallery, and expressing serious concern over gun and bomb attacks by Kuki militants on Meetei villages.
He wondered why prompt action could not be taken against the attackers.
As the government presented demand for a grant amounting to Rs 3,112,68,23,000 for the police department, cut motions were raised by opposition MLAs, including Surjakumar who referred to firing incidents in Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung area amid the assembly session.
He questioned why the government is not deploying its forces to suppress the militants and stressed the need for intervention by either the police or the army to effectively deal with the militants so as to discourage similar aggression.
Additionally, he pointed his fingers at DGP Rajiv Singh and questioned why no immediate action had been taken, repeating his query in both English and Hindi.
He further informed that the displaced people are asking for nothing other than to return to their homes.
While acknowledging that the government is taking some action, he emphasised that a clear roadmap for the return of displaced people to their respective homes should be accorded top priority.
Meanwhile, Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan highlighted threat to public due to piles of garbage in Thangmeiband area following restrictions from Lamdeng Apunba Lup in transportation of waste materials at the Sewage Treatment Plant.
He cited road stretches with large potholes as the primary reason for the blockade called by the locals, and drew attention of the House and ministers concerned to address the issue.
He also brought to the notice of the House about a shutter down strike by shop-owners in Thangmeiband area due to extortion activities while drawing attention of the leader of the House to resolve the issue.
On the other-hand, Thanga MLA T Robindro highlighted flood situation in Thanga and surrounding areas severely affecting the people, especially the fish farmers and urged authorities concerned to take up relief measures for the affected farmers.
