Senapati reports 819 hailstorm damaged houses

Senapati district administration has recorded at least 819 houses damaged by two spells of hailstorm occurred on March 26 and May 5 this year.
The figure is based on assessment by SDOs and officials concerned as of Monday and likely to increase in the coming few days.
Senapati deputy commissioner Mamoni Doley, however, wasted no time to report the list of victims based on initial assessment of damaged houses by officials concerned to additional chief secretary (Relief & Disaster Management), Manipur.
The report was based on study of recent natural calamities and getting of names of victims and details by concerned SDOs.
According to the list, Paomata sub-division is the worst-affected followed by Willong, Tadubi and Senapati sub-divisions.
The assessment report was categorised with respective number of victims in the four sub-divisions according to the scale of damages.
Paomata alone reported damage of 678 houses/properties followed by Willong with 112 damaged houses and Tadubi with 21 damaged houses.
The natural disaster also partially damaged Chakha Primary School, Maram Centre LP School, Oklong ground gallery roof, PHC Paomata building and DRDA hall Paomata centre.
Willong Khunou, Chakha, Pumdumlong, Liyai, Laii, Ching-mai Khullen, Saranamai, Tunggam were some of the major villages affected by the hailstorm on March 26 while some houses of Liyai village were destroyed by heavy wind and hailstorm in the last week of April.
The district administration had provided immediate relief materials to families affected by the devastating hailstorm occurred on March 26.Relief materials including food, rice, edible oil, sugar, family tents and 50 tarpaulins were distributed to the affected victims of Tunggam Khullen, Makhufii, Saranamai, Liyai Khunou, Liyai Khullen, Chingmai Khunou, Chingmai Khullen Katafiimai, New Laii, Pumdumlong, Rajaimei, Willong Khunou, Chakha and Oklong villages of Senapati district.
Notably, MLA N Kayisii immediately provided CGI sheets to many victims of Willong sub-division while caretaker chairman of ADC Senapati A Kapani also personally visited some villages and assured to repair some schools.
