Imphal, February 08 2013:
Communist Party of India (CPI) Manipur State unit has demanded extension of age limit for job entry, subsidized rice at Rs.2 per kg and other basic amenities to all the citizen of Manipur.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, General Secretary of CPI Manipur State Dr M Nara Singh pointed out that thousands of educated youths are facing the problem of unemployment in Manipur today.
So, in order to lessen the problem, the State Government should extend the age limit for job entry for general and scheduled candidate upto 40 and 45 years of age respectively.
Questioning how can an employee who is getting just Rs 3,000 as salary can manage his/her family in this costly world, Dr Nara noted that in the present socio-economic condition, it is difficult to maintain a family with income less than Rs.10 thousand.
So, the state government should hike the salary of contractual employees who are getting less than Rs.10 thousand, he demanded.
Announcing that CPI Manipur State would support the proposed general strike being called by All India Trade Union from 20th -21st February, Dr Nara observed that CPI is also currently launching a month-long campaign throughout the length and breadth of the State to raise public awareness on the prevailing social illness, failure of public distribution system , etc.
The campaign is a wakeup call to all citizens, he added.
Pointing out that some of the progressive and pro-people state governments like Kerala and Tamil Nadu have already made rice available to the people at subsidized rate, Dr Nara said that food security is a prime concern in the society.
So, CPI Manipur State is demanding to provide 35 Kg of rice to all each household in Manipur at Rs.2 per kg.
If the central government can waive crores of rupees for multi-billion companies in the country, why not a few crores for poor state like Manipur?, Dr Nara questioned.
