Sit-ins continue over varied issues, demands

Imphal, January 08 2025:
A large number of Meira Paibi activists continued to spend the night in the paddy field at Yaingangpokpi Santikhongbal on Wednesday, demanding deployment of central and state forces in Yaingangpokpi Uyokching and Thamnapokpi Uyokching.
The protest, demanding the deployment of security forces and repairing the roads in Yaingangpokpi Uyokching and Thamnapokpi Uyokching, completed three days on Wednesday.
On the other-hand, sit-in demonstration was staged at Leimakhongmapal under Lamlai assembly constituency by members of Leimakhongmapal Apunba Meira Paibi to denounce the killing of a village volunteer by police commandos on December 14 near a school at Salungpham village in Thoubal district and arrest of six others.

Meanwhile, the relay hunger strike launched by Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup demanding arrest of culprits involved in the abduction and subsequent killing of three children and three women in Jiribam in November 2023 continues unabated.
The protest at Uripok crossing along Uripok-Kangchup road completed the 54th day on Wednesday.
Residents of Lamphel Sanakeithel and Lamphel Khunou joined the protest on Wednesday morning while volunteers of Brilliant Club, Shamushang Meira, DCYS Club, Kabrabam Leikai Meira Paibi joined the protest in the evening.
Protestors held placards reading like 'Crime against women and children is crime against humanity', 'Stop terrorism', 'Arrest the culprits', 'We want justice' and 'Protect women and children' during the protest.
