Woman found dead with throat slit identified

Imphal, December 07 2012:
The identity of the woman who was found dead with her throat slit near a canal connecting Iroishemba and Lamdeng under Lamphel Police Station on Novemeber 30, has been established today.
She was one Lourembam Mema (48), w/o N Nilbir of Haobam Marak Laorembam Leikai.
Since the identity of the body, which has been lying at the mortuary of RIMS had not been established for quite long, Police have taken up necessary arrangement and conducted post mortem and finally handed over it over to Imphal Municipality for disposal as per law of the land.
However, after maternal family members of the deceased went to her husband's house to enquire about her and found that she had been missing since November 29 last, they went to Lamphel Police Station to identify one woman who was found dead on November 30.From the records and photograph maintained by the police, they came to know that the body was that of L Mema.
Decrying the incident of the killing of L Mema, locals of Haobam Marak Lourembam Leikai staged a sit-in-protest at Lourembam Leikai today.
A protester in the sit-in demonstration informed that Mema was a small time trader doing 'Moreh-business' .
Her husband is a carpenter.
He had divorced her earlier two wives and Mema was his third wife.
Mema left behind a girl child.
