Awareness programme on menstrual cycle held
Women should feel proud of their period: MSCW chief

While contending that women should not be looked down and treated indifferently because of their monthly cycle of menstruation, Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) chairperson in-charge Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang said that instead women should feel proud of their menstruation.
As chief guest of a one-day awareness programme organised by MSCW under the auspices of National Commission for Women at Manipur Educational Mission (MEM) Higher Secondary School, Ghari on Thursday, Thumlip Tiningpham said that irregular periods and failure to maintain hygiene may cause several illnesses including cancer and further stressed the need to consult with doctor if a woman is not well during her period instead of hiding it.
In his address, MSCW member Lourembam Dayabati informed that the Commission has been organising awareness on menstrual hygiene since the observance of World Menstrual Day on May 28.The awareness programme is to spread the message for maintaining menstrual hygiene and also about the roles to be taken by women in every aspect of life.
She further urged woman who are well aware about menstrual hygiene to disseminate relevant information to the young girls so as to ensure a healthy society.
The awareness programme presided over by MEM principal Yengkokpam Hitler was also attended by Commission member T Choungsin Koireng as guest of honour and gynecologist Dr Kabita Athokpam as resource person.
