RIMS observes International Testing Week

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Psychiatry Department in collaboration with the Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE), National Viral Hepatitis Control Program (NVH-CP) and Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MSACS), with support of Coalition Plus, observed International Testing Week 2024 at RIMS Methadone Maintenance Therapy (MMT) Centre on Friday.
In a release, RIMS informed that Psychiatry Department head and associate professor Dr S Gojendra Singh highlighted the importance of observing International Testing Week as it is a reminder of their responsibility to ensure that no one is left behind when it comes to accessing healthcare services.
He further pointed out that early testing saves lives, prevents complications, and contributes to a healthier community.
CoNE president RK Nalinikanta mentioned that the week was observed with the aim of increasing access to testing for hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV among marginalised communities.
The programme was also conducted at various locations during the week, he informed, while lauding NVHCP and MSACS for contributing essential testing kits, diagnostic tools, treatment resources, and vaccinations for individuals diagnosed with hepatitis and HIV.
During the programme, free vaccinations were provided to individuals with hepatitis and HIV.
Approximately 40 clients were targeted for HIV and hepatitis screening.
Additionally, opportunities for treatment and support were extended to individuals diagnosed with hepatitis C and HIV, the release added.
