Handloom Expo ends, ₹40 lakh products sold

The 14-day State Handloom Expo (Hathkargha Mela) organised by Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation Limited in connection with the Ningol Chakkouba festival concluded on Wednesday with stall runners collectively recording sale of over Rs 40 lakh worth of handloom and handicraft products.
The fair held at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound was sponsored by office of the development commissioner (handloom) of the Ministry of Textiles.
The valedictory programme of the fair was attended by Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation Limited managing director E Jiten as chief guest, District Handloom and Textiles, Imphal East project manager (handloom) Ashalata as president and Weavers Service Centre, Porompat deputy director Priyadarshi Daripa and state awardee (handicraft) RK Sarda as guests of honour.
In his speech, E Jiten expressed elation that stalls at the Expo sold handloom and handicraft items worth Rs 40 lakh.
Emphasising on concerted efforts of stakeholders concerned to accelerate development of the handloom and handicraft sector through aggressive marketing of products in every Expo, he said that the ministry has been creating opportunities to weavers and craftsmen to sell their products through conduct of handloom Expo periodically at different places as a calendar programme.
