In connection with a PIL taken up at the instance of the Supreme Court relating to protection of Ramsar site Loktak Lake and its surrounding wetland areas, the High Court of Manipur has today impleaded Water Resources Department (WRD) as a respondent.
An order issued by acting Chief Justice N Kotiswar and Justice Kh Nobin today directed the Department of Forest and Environment (respondent no 2) as well as WRD (respondent no 5) to file necessary affidavits within a period of three weeks.
In the meantime, the Registry of the High Court will issue public notice inviting opinions from the public/experts/NGOs working for the preservation of Ramsar site in Manipur, mentioned the order.
It also conveyed that Amicus Curiae Kh Samarjit and Julius Raimei may submit a report by the next date and may also visit Loktak Lake and surrounding wetland areas for which the State respondents will cooperate and render necessary assistance including conveyance as may be required.
The Court listed the matter for the next hearing on
February 28 .
