Imphal, October 05 2024:
Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL), Kangleipak has appealed to the government to halt the ongoing recruitment process for primary teachers initiated by Education (S) Department to allow candidates who have passed both supplementary Meetei Mayek Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and DIET, and instead issued a new application form for the same.
In a press meet held at MEELAL's premises, here, on Saturday, Lup president Khaidem Ingocha said that the primary teachers are being denied qualification on the basis that they failed to meet the criteria of not clearing the DIET or Meetei Mayek Supplementary TET.
This is unfortunate as the prospective candidates have been selflessly working in schools for promotion of Meetei Mayek.
As such, he urged the government and the authority concerned for reissuing the application forms to allow them to avail this opportunity.
He expressed dissatisfaction over the government's attitude towards students who have gone on to complete their masters and even PhD in Meetei Mayek and also negligence towards promotion of the state's script.
The promotion of Meetei Mayek requires allocation of fund in the state budget, he said, while suggesting the need for formulating some kind of programme for Meetei Mayek in the education policy.
He also stressed the need for setting up a Meetei Mayek Institute.
Ingocha further said that despite the valiant efforts of titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba, who brought up the matter of promoting Manipuri language as one of the classical languages, the state government's lackadaisical attitude has led to snubbing of the people's aspirations terribly.
Thus, MEELAL and WAMA will be looking into the matter of including of Manipuri in the list of classical languages.
He then urged the state government to take up action in this regard, while further pushing for effective functioning of the lexicon committee formed under the Language Department.
