Imphal, September 04 2024:
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur has called for the removal of Manipur DGP and security advisor, accusing them of remaining silent while Kuki narco-terrorists attack the Meetei community with drone bombs.
A sit-in protest was organised by Poirei Leimarol and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) near Khoyathong Andolan Keithel, on Wednesday under the banner "Manipur Muthatpa Yaroi" .
The protesters displayed placards inscribed with slogans such as "Security Advisor and DGP Must Be Removed Immediately", "Arms Cannot Be Confiscated by Conducting Combing Operations in the Valley", and "Prohibit Kuki Terrorists from Using Drone Bombs to Destroy Meeteis", among others.
During the demonstration, Poirei Leimarol president S Memcha termed as deeply troubling that the security advisor and DGP remain silent while Kuki militants use drone bombs to attack Meetei villages.
This situation is condemned in the strongest terms, and both officials should be removed immediately, she maintained.
AMAWOVA president Y Kunjarani, meanwhile, said that the use of drone bombs and killing a 31 years old woman and injuring many others including a journalist and security personnel merit condemnation in the strongest terms.
The Kuki narco-terrorists who are trying to destroy the territorial integrity of Manipur should be rooted out from the state, she asserted.
Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur also demanded security advisor Kuldiep Singh to resign from his post as he has failed to properly discharge mandated duties.
In a statement, FOCS strongly condemned torching of the house of a retired police officer, Sinam Bipin, at Jakuradhor Bazar of Borobekra Subdivision, Jiribam district by Kuki terrorists in the early hours of Wednesday.
As such, security advisor Kuldiep Singh must take responsibility of the incident since the deployment of central paramilitary and state forces falls under the jurisdiction of the Home Department.
It continued that FOCS had been monitoring Jiribam district, wherein the population of outsiders has far exceeded the total population of the indigenous people in the area.
It had always urged the government from time to time to take requisite action whenever a situation occurs, said the release.
Stating that Jiribam is an important strategic point for the state, FOCS lamented that central forces deployed in the district continue to be mute spectators to the atrocities committed by Kuki militants.
Thus, it demanded for the removal of the central forces from Manipur and for the resignation of Kuldiep Singh for failing to perform his duties.
