Quarrying in Thoubal River continue, alleges TRCC

Thoubal, May 04 2020: Taking advantage of the Nationwide lockdown, some people started extracting stones and sand using machines from the Thoubal River.

This practice has directly or indirectly affected many people who depend on the river, alleged Thoubal River Conservation Committee (TRCC) in a statement, today.

Recalling that the High Court of Manipur has banned quarrying sand and stones from the Thoubal River, TRCC alleged that some people are taking advantage of the lockdown to carry out this unethical practice.

Cautioning that details of all vehicles and machines used in extracting sand and stones will be furnished to High Court if found violating the Court order, TRCC appealed all concerned to look into the matter to save the river at the earliest.
