Imphal, December 03 2017:
After a gap of many years, vehicular traffic has resumed on Guite Road which is a part of NH-102B .
Guite Road became traffic worthy on account of hectic construction work taken up by a private company under the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) .
Assam based Bhartia Infra Projects Ltd started constructing the 68.60 Kms long Guite Road since August last year .
Notably, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had announced Churachandpur-Singhat-Sinzawl-Tuivai (Mizoram border) as NH-102B .
Singhat-Molnom section of this National Highway, popularly known as Guite Road is being constructed by Bhartia Infra Projects Ltd.
However, tender process is going on for Churachandpur-Singhat and Molnom Tuivai sections .
A team of media persons from Imphal visited some sections of the highway today .
Speaking to the media team at their camp office located at Lungthul T which is about 34 Kms away from Singnat, Bhartia Infra Projects Ltd Senior Project Manager S Tiken said that the highway was under the care of BRO from 1997 .
After Bhartia Infra Projects Ltd took over the highway last year, it took 6/7 hours for officials of the company to reach Lungthul T from Singnat .
At that time, the road was filled with big potholes .
It took sometime for the company to level the road surface.
Nonetheless, the company has been working hard to complete the road construction work ahead of the stipulated period of three years, Tiken said .
Out of the total length of the highway which is being constructed by Bhartia Infra Projects Ltd, 45 Kms have reached WBM stage while 10 Kms have been black-topped .
The firm has set a target of black-topping 50 per cent of the total length within the current working season, he informed .
But cooperation of the villagers settled along the highway is crucial.
Now passenger vehicles have started plying on the highway, Tiken said .
He also appealed to all the transporters and commuters to slow down and drive by the highway's margin at those points where men are at work .
To a query, he informed that due tender process has been initiated to engage private firms for construction of Churachandpur-Singnat (34.50 Kms) and Molnom-Tuivai (70 Kms) sections .
Bhartia Infra Projects Ltd Senior Engineer P Satish said that they have been working by strictly adhering to the technical specifications given by NHIDCL .
Even though construction of road side drains is not included in the project, the company has been constructing kutcha drains, he said .
One Mamang of Lungthul T village said that they have been enduring the woes of pathetic road connectivity for the past many decades but the villagers are quite relieved now with the construction of a proper road.
