JAC meets CM, shutdown begins

Imphal, October 03 2021:
The JAC formed in connection with the murder of Athuan Abonmei held talks with the Chief Minister on Sunday though there is no change in the JAC's stand for imposing the 24-hour total shutdown.
According to a statement issued by the JAC, its representatives held talks with CM N Biren on Sunday around 6.30 pm.
During the meeting, the JAC conveyed that the incident occurred due to the negligence of Tamenglong DC and SP, and as such, demanded suspension of the said officials.
In response, the CM said that he was not informed of Athuan Abonmai's abduction by the DC or the SP.
Taking note of this revelation, the JAC insisted that the DC and the SP should be held accountable for failure to inform the CM of the incident.
Thus, they should be suspended immediately.
The CM then gave assurance to the JAC of taking up all necessary actions on the matter.
The statement further conveyed that the 24-hour state-wide total shutdown from the midnight of October 3 till the midnight of October 4 will go ahead as planned.
Additionally, other forms of democratic agitations will be launched until justice is delivered in the case.
It may be mentioned here that the Ministry of Home Affairs had instructed the NIA to take over the case from the state police.
