Frequent blockades peeves SDSA, NPO

Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has appealed to all parties concerned to refrain from unnecessarily hampering the vehicular movement for ferrying goods and passengers along the National Highway (NH) 2 .
A statement issued by the Association observed that blockades/shutdowns are frequently imposed for every minor reason, causing significant disruption and hardship to the people who rely on this vital route.
While the people understand and sympathise deeply with all Victims of the ongoing conflict, it is imperative to maintain the NH-2 as a safe zone for free flow of traffic as the highway is a lifeline for the region, facilitating the movement of essential goods, services, and citizens.
Though the student body stated that they do not have any objection to total shutdowns imposed in their respective areas and jurisdictions, the statement made it clear that any form of harassment or obstruction along the NH-2 which would exacerbate the suffering of innocent people must be halted immediately.
If the harassment and unnecessary blockade continue, the association, as per the resolutions adopted in the 2nd Federal Assembly held at Nteiramphung (Tumnoupokpi) village on Saturday, may be forced to take up countermeasures to protect the rights and safety of the citizens, the statement cautioned.
The student body also urged all stakeholders to consider the broader impact of their actions and work towards peaceful resolutions.
The well-being of Senapati community and uninterrupted flow of traffic on the NH-2 must be prioritised above all else, the statement added.
Reiterated that it remains committed to supporting and advocating for the rights and safety of the people.
SDSA hoped for a cooperative approach to resolve the issues and trusted that all parties will act responsibly and considerately.
Meanwhile, Naga People's Organisation (NPO), in a statement, also stated that the organisation is perturbed by the frequent blockades, bandh, and shutdowns along the highway.
Consequent upon the inconvenience caused, NPO in consultation with the tribe hoho; had resolved that any inconvenience caused along the NH-2 to the general public shall be construed as impending upon the rights for free movement of the people.
NPO further stated that the organisation shall continue to extend its support to whichever community in their struggle for a righteous cause.
However, the highway should not be unnecessarily taken for ransom to address one's ends.
