Forum plans state level discourse on Hindi policy

Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur convened its 14th general body meeting at the Kongba Nandeibam Leikai residence of Debjani Yumnam on Sunday.
During the meeting, a resolution was adopted to hold a state level seminar within the current month to discuss the move of making Hindi compulsory till Class X and both the positive-negative effects of the move on the future of the students.
The meeting was attended by Forum president Naoroibam Khamba Luwang, former president Yaiskul Khwairakpam, patron members Dr S Manaoton and Wahengbam Hemabati as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Manaoton remarked that as the move to make Hindi compulsory in schools is being pursued seriously by the Union government as indepth discussion with the people is needed to ascertain the true intention of the policy.
Manipur University assistant professor Dr N Sanatomba stated that a revolution for the motherland is the need of the hour.
Thus, a seminar regarding the move needs to be organised and its recommendations forwarded to the central and state governments.
It is time for the authorities concerned to decide whether Hindi is at the same level as that of Manipuri language, which is included in the Eighth Schedule of Indian Constitution, he added.
As part of the meeting, floral tributes were offered to the portraits of the deceased members of the Forum, followed by felicitation of new members.
