Imphal, December 01 2024:
Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has issued a statement addressing the recent disturbances faced by the people of Sangji village and its surrounding areas in Noney district.
The Front attributed the unrest to the intrusion of NSCN-IM elements into the village and nearby areas, causing significant public fear and insecurity.
According to a statement, cadres of ZUF's armed wing - Zeliangrong Tiger Force (ZTF), were conducting routine patrolling in the area when the NSCN-IM resorted to acts of provocation, including gunfire in public places.
ZUF stated that these actions by NSCN-IM were designed to challenge and confront the ZTF, escalating the situation beyond the limits of tolerance and restraint.
This led to an unavoidable counter-confrontation, heightening the public's sense of fear and insecurity.
Expressing deep concern over the emotional and physical toll on the people of Sangji village and nearby areas, ZUF said displacement of innocent villagers and the establishment of relief camps in neighbouring villages were unavoidable outcomes of the incident.
The Front emphasised that further escalation of such crises could occur if the root cause is not un derstood and if the public mislabel ZUF's actions without recognising the intentions of NSCN-IM.
The statement alleged that NSCN-IM had ventured far from their camps into areas near ZUF camps, provoking the conflict.
It warned of intensified defensive measures against the intruding elements of NSCN-IM until their "provocative evil designs" are withdrawn.
The Front also raised concerns about certain local individuals allegedly acting as agents for the adversary, while warning of severe consequences without a second chance if the same trend continues.
ZUF urged the community to discern the facts surrounding the incident to prevent further misunderstandings and crises in the region.
