Workshop on LEP concludes with 7 resolutions

The two-day long workshop on "Manipur in India's Look East Policy" which began on August 30 under the banner of Manipur Chamber of Foreign Trade and Industry (MACFI) in collaboration with Manipur Update media group concluded yesterday along with adopting 7-point resolutions at Hotel Classic here.
The workshop stressed on the need of a separate State Directorate of Foreign Trade to promote and protect the exporters, importers, traders and entrepreneurs.
Till a separate State Directorate of Foreign Trade is established, the existing Export Promotion Cell attached to the Department of Commerce and Industries should be strengthened to meet the needs and demands of the state importers, exporters, traders and entrepreneurs, according to the resolution adopted during the workshop.
The workshop then declared that the government should make all necessary arrangements to avert any kinds of harassment faced by the importers, exporters, traders and entrepreneurs between Moreh to Imphal.
It also adopted to start transit trade between China and other ASEAN countries with India via Myanmar, the government should provide the necessary resources and supports.
All government foreign trade related institutions like DGFT and EXIM bank should have a representative office in Manipur.
Moreover, all likeminded trade bodies, exporters should come together under a consortium to pool the knowledge, skills and resources required to promote and practice foreign trade.
Meanwhile, the currently permitted Border Trade items should be increased accordingly to the local (Manipuris) market demands.
And lastly, a specific export oriented MSME policy/scheme should be introduced and the state government should provide exhibit counters at Chins and other ASEAN countries, with China, Thailand and Myanmar to start with.
