Senapati, August 01 2021:
A 'Covid-19 pandemic special awareness, advocacy cum vaccination programme' scheduled to take place on Sunday has been deferred till next Sunday due to poor road condition between Koide and Maiba villages.
The road between the two villages is riddled with potholes filled with rain water and is without drainage system.
There has, been no developmental programme to improve the road connectivity till date, villagers said.
In a press release issued by the village authority; LD David, chairman of Sheemai (Maiba) village, lamented that the villagers missed a golden opportunity of free vacci nation programme initiated by the district administration and sought the help of the authority concerned for a paved inter-village road at the earliest.
Globally, Covid test and vaccinations are social obligation that each individual is bound to involve as a social animal.
Covid vaccination is no doubt the most effective prevention/shield against Covid virus as most of the people shiver at the thought of this dreaded disease.
Two doses of the vaccination are therefore considered as the best preventive measure against severe attack of the virus.
Maiba village under Paomata block of Karong AC is stated to be located at a distance of about 8km from Koide village under Purul block of Senapati district.
The village reportedly has 537 households with a population of around 3041 people, according to the 2011 census.
The village is not only inaccessible to the district authorities during this season but also transportation of basic needs to the village is difficult throughout the year.
Some elders considered themselves unlucky to have been born in the village where there is lack of development almost on all fronts, putting the blame on political apathy which is getting in the way of any government's development programme in the village.
The day's deferment of special Covid awareness, advocacy and vaccination programme at the village has triggered the villagers' concern, thinking that they are being deprived of the "Right to Live," considering the current situation.
The decision to postpone the programme due to bad road connectivity, especially from Koide village to Maiba village was reportedly taken in the presence of DC Senapati, SDO, Paomata, CMO Senapati, district surveillance officer, district immunization officer and PHC Paomata staff.
The village authority appealed to all concerned to pay serious attention the immediate need of the village at the earliest possible.
