Shija Hospitals hosts Stroke Awareness Programme

Shija Hospital & Research Institute Pvt Ltd (SHRI) organised an awareness programme on "Emergency Stroke Management" at Shija Hospital, emphasizing the importance of rapid response to stroke care.
Over 40 participants attended the event from Medilane Healthtech, JCRE Meds, LifeCare, and Life Saver Ambulance Service, with Dr Rahul Oinam, Consultant Neurologist, Shija Hospitals, as the resource person.
According to a release issued by SHRI, the programme aimed to enhance the ability of ambulance teams to recognize and respond swiftly to stroke symptoms, a crucial skill in managing one of the world's leading causes of death and long-term disability.
Dr Rahul covered essential stroke identification techniques, focusing on symptoms such as sudden confusion, numbness, and speech difficulties, while underscoring the critical "golden hour" for stroke care.
He emphasized the necessity of swift transport' to a stroke-ready hospital within 4.5 hours for optimal recovery.
He also highlighted the BE FAST acronym- Balance (sudden loss of coordination), Eyes (sudden vision changes), Face (facial drooping), Arms (weakness in one arm), Speech (slurred speech), and Time (the urgency to call emergency services), as a crucial tool for recognizing stroke symptoms promptly.
In a coordinated effort, Shija Hospital organised similar programmes at SHAIBO Hospital in Khurai and Shija Hospital, Langol.
The session at SHAIBO was conducted by Dr Kangujam Baby Chanu, Medical Officer in-charge, while Dr Sulochana Darjee, Consultant Emergency Physician, facilitated the programme at Shija Hospital.
The initiative, involving staff from both hospitals, underscored Shija Hospitals' commitment to advancing emergency preparedness and community health education in the region.
