Tamenglong, August 31 2014:
Strongly objecting to the proposed inauguration of the incomplete suspension bailey bridge built over Barak river between Dikiuram and Katang village on September 1, Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has urged the State Government to defer inauguration of the same till necessary technical rectification is made in the interest of the general public.
A statement of the Front signed by its general secretary David said that the bridge to connect Nagaland and Manipur was constructed under the NEC funding.
A team of ZYF during a physical inspection of the bridge detected serious technical defects, it alleged.
The statement pointed out that the iron bars on both sides of the railings were yet to be fixed and the cables overlapped on the left side of Katang village.
With these defects, the bridge would not be able to bear heavy laden vehicles.
ZYF had communicated the matter to the concerned authority for necessary rectification before inauguration, however, no such action has been taken till date, it added.
Stating that the Government should take responsibilities for any tragedy that occur on the bridge, ZYF said that they would seek help from appropriate law court in case the State Government moves ahead with the inauguration function without rectifying the technical loopholes.
The construction work of the bridge started some six or seven years ago with strong pressure from Zeliangrong people, informed the press release saying the state Government has been deferring the work without any justification.
Other developmental projects in Tamenglong district have also failed to serve any intended purpose since projects are inaugurated before completion, it asserted.
