Imphal, January 31 2022:
National People's Party (NPP) national vice president and deputy chief minister Y Joykumar has remarked that BJP, after witnessing the intending candidates who were denied party tickets winning the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, would be in a race to coax the said candidates citing ticket mix-up as the reason.
He made the statement during reception of 6 former intending BJP candidates to NPP, organised at the badminton hall of Mayol in Iroishemba on Monday.
NPP state president N Kay-isii and Deputy CM Y Joykumar welcomed Kumbi AC ex-MLA N Mangi, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC ex-MLA Soibam Subhaschandra, Tamei AC ex-MLA Z Kikhonbou Newmai, Khaipao Haokip of Saikot AC and Lunminthang Haokip of Henglep AC, and presented them traditional stole and a party flag each.
Speaking on the occasion, Joykumar reiterated that NPP had been waiting to announce its remaining candidates after BJP's list was out.
Although it was thought that BJP would allot tickets to prospective candidates, the party decided to give preference to candidates with almost zero chance of winning the polls.
This is good news as those who joined NPP after being denied tickets by BJP would win the polls, making the latter regret its decision and then it would be trying to poach the winners, just as it did to him after he won the last polls on NPP ticket after being denied by BJP.
As experts have commented on various media platforms, NPP would not be an easy party to defeat in the upcoming polls.
Around 10-15 people would be joining NPP in the next 2-3 days, among which will also include Wangkhei AC MLA Y Erabot.
NPP would be fielding candidates in around 40 constituencies, and win the seats in at least 25 constituencies, he added.
Observing that no political party has published their election manifesto except NPP, Joykumar said that failing to release the manifestos even now is asign of the political parties' lack of knowledge on what development works need to be taken up after the polls.
In his speech, ex-MLA S Subashchandra said that he never came across a more ruthless chief minister in his political career of 35 years like the present CM.
Despite being a coalition government, the present government does not have a common minimum programme, no meeting has been called with the coalition parties, and the self-will of BJP legislators compelled him to resign from the MLA seat.
The present government is continuing to do all kinds of wrong such as playing the drama of busting drugs but never catching the mastermind behind, he remarked.
