Imphal, December 31 2021:
Commenting on BJP national president JP Nadda's frequent visits to the state as the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election draws nearer, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president N Loken contended that his sojourns in quick succession is testimony of the dire situation besieging the party's state unit and that it is on shaky ground ahead of the polls.
He also said that the political parties including NPP which are currently a partner of the BJP-led coalition government will not be working together with BJP after the polls.
While extending warm New Year greetings to the people of Manipur during a press meet held at his Sangaiprou residence on Friday, Loken said that the ruling BJP government does not understand the meaning of a coalition government.
The existing coalition parties, namely NPP, NPF, Trinamool Congress, Lok Janshakti and independents will not continue to extend support to BJP in the next term.
BJP has ignored the terms and conditions agreed between its national leader Amit Shah and NPP national president Conrad Sangma.
In addition, many are dissatisfied with the way ministers from other parties are removed.
Predicting that BJP will win only 14-16 seats in the upcoming polls, the MPCC president advised against dreaming about winning 40 seats.
Although Congress had won 28 seats in the last polls, BJP forcefully formed the government.
Nonetheless, Congress will emerge as the single largest party in the upcoming polls and would form the next government.
Congress is sure to secure 20 seats in the valley area alone.
Presently, Congress has 15 MLAs, all of whom are sure winners, he added.
Reiterating that the desperate situation of the state BJP unit is the reason behind JP Nadda's frequent visits to the state, Loken remarked that during Congress rule, any union minister visiting the state made sure to announce development projects for the state.
However, the same is not being witnessed with regard to BJP and the only announcement made has been assurances of bringing development and peace.
The ruling government is forever more ready to gag the media, not to speak of raising any voice of dissension, thus, concerted efforts are needed to put an end to such type of government, he asserted.
