TG students, teachers briefed on breast cancer

With the stated objective to spread awareness among young students and staff, a Breast Cancer Awareness Programme was conducted at Tamphasana Girls' Higher Secondary School, Imphal West on Wednesday.
Organised by Lions Club of Imphal Excellence in collaboration with ACME College of Nursing (AGON), the programme focused on educating participants about the importance of early detection, preventive care, and the role of healthcare in combating breast cancer.
It began with an assembly of teachers, students, and invited guests from both the Lions Club and ACON.
Dr Mrinalini Konjengbam, a medical professional and member of the Lions Club, delivered the keynote address, elaborating on Breast Cancer Awareness Month, also known as Pink October, observed globally since the 1990s.Dr Mrinalini explained that pink, often symbolised by the pink ribbon, serves as a unifying colour worldwide to raise awareness about breast health.
She encouraged students to play an active role in sharing this message with their communities, while emphasising significance of awareness and early intervention in the fight against breast cancer.
Reflecting on role of healthcare workers in breast cancer prevention and treatment, ACME College of Nursing, principal Prof N Nalinibala reminded the unique position nurses hold in providing direct care and educating patients about breast health and early detection.
ACON resource persons delivered presentations with detailed slides focusing on topics ranging from breast cancer prevention and self-examination techniques to advancements in treatment options.
Club member Lourembam Charalbala Devi, a cancer survivor, shared her journey of overcoming breast cancer and stressed the importance of mental strength and community support in facing such a challenge.
She had the audience engrossed in her tale of resilience, the importance of regular check-ups, and the life-changing impact of early intervention.
Lions Club of Imphal Excellence president Anand Sapam acknowledged the efforts of the school administration, ACME College of Nursing, and everyone involved in the event, recognising the collective commitment to promoting awareness and supporting breast cancer prevention efforts.
