Land row, pandemic delayed rail project: MoS

Union minister of state for railways Raosaheb Patil Danve has said that the Jiribam-Imphal railway project could be completed in 2023 if there is no land dispute.
Patil Danve is on a two-day vis it to the state and he along with officials of railways physically inspected construction of Tunnel No 12 of the Imphal-Jiribam rail line currently underway at Sahibung village near Sangaithel in Imphal West district.
Talking to media persons on the sidelines of the inspection, Patil informed that the tunnel near Sangaithel will be around 12km long and tunnelling work of around 7 km long has been completed so far.
Elated over the progress of the tunnelling works, he said that it is the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to have railway connectivity in all North Eastern states and accordingly sanctioned huge fund and there is no paucity of fund for the same.
Land dispute sometime back and ongoing COVID-19 pandemic delayed progress of project, he said while adding that he reviewed progress of the railway project with chief minister N Biren on Sunday and the latter assured of extending all possible help.
The visiting Union railways minister later inspected construction work of the ongoing Imphal railway station near Yurembam and Bamdiar and interacted with workers engaged for the construction.
He told officials concerned to speed up construction works though pandemic has delayed the same.
Konthoujam MLA Dr Sapam Ranjan and BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi accompanied the visiting railways minister during the inspection.
