Imphal, March 29 2012:
All Manipur Bus Owners' Federation has warned the concerned authority that it would resort to various agitations if demands of the bus owners over death of two innocent handymen on the intervening night of March 26 and 27 were not fulfilled.
Addressing media persons at the office of Imphal-Churachandpur Road Bus Owners' and Workers' Association at Keishampat here today, A Priyokumar, Secretary of All Manipur Bus Owners Federation, informed that the Federation would be submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister highlighting their demands which would include giving ex-gratia to the families of the two deceased handymen or suitable government jobs to the next of kin of the deceased; compensation to the owner of the ill fated bus and befitting punishment to those involved in the heinous act.
Priyokumar said that if the government authorities do not consider the demands of the Federation, they would be compelled to take up various agitations with the support of various Associations.
He also appealed to all the Civil Society organisations in the state to extend their support and co-operation to the cause.
Burning down of a bus in the heart of Imphal clearly shows lapses of security arrangement, he pointed out.
Furthermore, Priyokumar demanded the Transport Department to set up a specific transport policy so as to monitor issuing of permit vehicles like Tata Wingers which are being allowed to do service across four districts.
Meanwhile, many organizations have condemned the burning down of the bus that claimed the lives of two innocent handymen.
