Imphal, August 28 2021:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) celebrated its 56th foundation day at its multipurpose hall located inside DM University campus on Saturday.
After hoisting the AMSU flag to mark the start of the celebration, its president Haobijam Chalamba recalled that four lives attained martyrdom in 1965 during the people's movement against the anti-people politics played by wealthy business persons in collusion with the then government that led to creation of a famine like situation in the state.
Subsequently, AMSU was formed with an aim to end such evil acts in the state, he added.
Pointing out that AMSU as a students' body has been taking active role in several issues of Manipur, Chalamba said that AMSU took major roles on issues related to safeguarding of territorial integrity, preventing influx of immigrants, movement for inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution as well as during the great June uprising for the sake of upholding territorial and emotional integrity of people of Manipur.
He appealed to everyone to join hands for resolving issues that besiege the state from time to time for a better Manipur.
Appreciating all those who repose faith in the union and giving encouragement for the last many years, Chalamba exhorted the people to support AMSU in taking up several issues of the state in the future as well.
Simple gifts were presented to leaders of AMSU, CSOs and other student organisations as a part of the celebration.
Prizes of the competition organised in connection with Hunger Marchers' Day observance and AMSU foundation day were also distributed on the occasion.
