Imphal, April 27 2025: The "Fit India Sundays on Cycle" campaign, part of a nationwide initiative to promote fitness and environmental awareness, was held on Sunday at Sports Authority of India (SAI), North East Regional Centre (NERC), Takyel Complex, Imphal and other SAI facilities.

The Takyel event included around 150 participants taking part in a cycle rally, flagged off from the SAI NERC Complex and ending at the same venue after covering Malom Oil Depot.

The rally was flagged off by L Ashok Kumar, joint director (IPR), in the presence of Laying L Maring, assistant director (personnel & administration) SAI NERC Imphal; Laishram Samritya Singh, assistant director (Khelo India) SAI NERC Imphal; Pushpa Maibam, media and communication officer, PIB Imphal; and N Nando, assistant director (news), DDK Imphal, alongside other media professionals and officials.

In his address, L Ashok highlighted the significant role cycling plays in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Reflecting on earlier times when cycles were the primary means of transport, he urged the public to incorporate at least 30 minutes of cycling into their daily routines for better health and wellbeing.

Organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the event builds upon the overwhelming success of earlier campaigns such as the Fit India Cycling Drive, which witnessed participation from over 1.5 crore citizens.

Continuing this momentum, the Ministry has launched the "Fit India Cycling Drive - Making Cycling Sundays a Janbhagidari Movement," aiming to make cycling an essential part of Indian lifestyles.

The "India Sundays on Cycle" campaign has swiftly evolved into a nationwide movement, encouraging citizens to dedicate time every Sunday to fitness and environmental consciousness.

Echoing the Prime Minister's mantra, "Fitness Ka Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz," the initiative promotes cycling as both health-enhancing activity and a green alternative for daily commuting.

The Fit India cycling drive embodies the spirit of the broader Fit India Movement, seeking to bridge individual wellbeing with collective environmental responsibility.

By inspiring millions to embrace cycling, the campaign supports efforts to reduce pollution and foster a healthief planet.

As part of the event, a one-minute silence was observed in solidarity with the victims of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
