La Ganesan to take oath as Guv today

Imphal, August 26 2021: Governor designate La Ganesan will take oath as the 17th Governor of Manipur at Raj Bhavan here on Friday.

On his arrival to take over the charge, La Ganesan was accord warm reception by chief minister N Biren and his council of ministers along with presentation of guard of honour by a combined contingent of 5 IRB, 6 MR and 1 MR led by 10 IRB CO at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

Deputy chief minister Y Joykumar, Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Y Khemchand, works minister Th Biswajit, education Minister S Rajen, TA & H minister Vungzagin Valte, agriculture minister O Lukhoi, chief secretary, DGP and other government officials were also present at the reception function.

As per agency reports, Ganesan has deep roots in RSS, which he was part of from 1967-91 .

He joined the BJP in Tamil Nadu in 1991 as general secretary - organisation and remained in that post until 2003, before being elevated as BJP national vice president.

Ganesan returned to Tamil Nadu as the party's president of the state unit and served in that post for three years.

He was later nominated to Rajya Sabha by the party to serve the residual period, after Najma Heptulla was made Governor of Manipur.

Ganesan served the upper house for 18 months.
