Imphal, October 25 2019:
Around 400 trucks laden with essential items and commodities have been stranded for more than 4-5 days, unable to reach Imphal, along National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam route), leading to great inconveniences and sufferings for the truck drivers.
According to a reliable source, oil tankers escorted by CRPF vehicles travel along the route everyday (except Saturdays and Sundays) and as such the goods carrying trucks are being prohibited from going further from the CRPF checkposts.
As the escorted oil tankers are always on constant movement along the road, around 400 goods laden trucks have been stranded along the road from Barak to Shantikhunnou for the last 4-5 days leading to great inconveniences for the truck drivers.
The source claimed that most of the vegetables like potatoes, onions and other perishable items are starting to rot and added that the truck drivers have appealed to the Government to enable their trucks to move freely along the road just like the oil tankers.
