Locals nab runaway Covid positive drug user

Imphal, May 25 2021:
A Covid-19 positive drug user kept at RD Wing Lamphelpat Covid Care Centre went missing on Tuesday morning.
The person was later rounded up by volunteers of KADA, Kellakhong and a team of Mayang Imphal police station at Awapalli near Bengoon Mayang Imphal.
He has been kept at Khuman Lampak Covid Care Centre.
The person had tested Covid-19 positive after undergoing test at the Covid testing camp for drug users organised by Social Welfare Department on Monday where 32 other drug users were also examined for the virus.
RD Wing Lamphelpat CCC medical officer Dr Maibam Rocky submitted a missing report of the patient to Social Welfare Department director Tuesday morning.
The report stated that around 7:45 am, authorities of the Covid Care Centre discovered that the person along with his belonging was missing from his room and even his phone was switched off, suggesting that the person has fled the centre.
The report also stated that necessary actions should be taken and added that a separate facility for drug users be set up.
After receiving the missing report, officials of departments concerned conducted search for the person and he was later rounded up by the team of KADA Kellakhong volunteers and Mayang Imphal police at Awapalli.
He was taken in an ambulance to Covid Care Centre Khuman Lampak.
Regarding the incident, Social Welfare director Ngangom Uttam told The People's Chronicle that a Covid Care Centre only for asymptomatic drug users will be set up by the department soon.
He also maintained that several proposals have been made in the past to authorities concerned for setting up a separate centre for drug users in order to avoid such incidents.
