Ukhrul, August 24 2015:
With varied DVD players adorning each household everywhere today on top of a growing number of private channels flooding the market, Doordarshan Kendra broadcasts seem to have become a thing of the past for majority of public in Ukhrul district.
The number of viewership might have probably dwindled here over the years.
"This is one big proposition that is worrying us" said Th Sunil engineering assistant of DDK Centre Ukhrul in an interaction with Hueiyen Lanpao.
He said that while the centre is rendering its duty in relaying all regular Doordarshan programmes to the public from 5:30 am to 12:30 pm each day except a few breaks during the day, there apparently have no assumed audience in the district, especially the District Headquarters.
Testifying this assumption, he said that at times there are prolonged interruptions in the broadcast due to technical failures but even then the centre has never received a single complaint from the district public.
Even then, he admitted that some interested viewers may find it difficult to access our broadcasts since all modern TV sets come without the requisite aerial these days.
"If there ever is any viewer of our DDK programs, we welcome response from the public from time to time," Sunil said while informing that the centre is in the process of installing FM service in the district.
He further informed that the FM machinery has already reached Imphal and once the construction of infrastructure at Phungreitang is completed the same would be installed for public benefit.
He said that currently the centre is run on 500 wt TV Transmitter and in the event of upgrading to 1 kwt DDMC could be set up for better service.
