All Jiribam United Minority People's Organisation (AJUMPO), Jiribam on Thursday clarified that the news item published in a local daily under the title "All Jiribam Minority People's na ILP gi Mayokta Thabak Tourakadouri" (AJUMPO to act against ILP) on May 23 is "false and baseless" .
Condemning the published news item, AJUMPO said that it has "never criticized" or "opposed" the 'imposition' of ILPS in the State.
AJUMPO has been conducting several meetings in various places of Jiribam with the objective of giving awareness to the people about the merits and demerits of the Bill (ILPS) .
It supports the Bill and similar law which aim at protecting the indigenous people, said a statement of the organisation Thursday.
The organisation further claimed that it "never opposed" the statement of the Chief Minister to pass a consensus Bill which will stop influx of illegal migrants in the coming Monsoon Assembly Session, It welcomes the proposal of the Chief Minister to call all the stakeholders to discuss the Bill before the final draft is finalised, said the organisation.
"Other statements like indefinite blockade of National Highway, creation of separate district in minority concentrated areas in Barak circle etc appeared in the daily are also completely false and baseless.
AJUMPO condemned such provocative statements which create tension and apprehension among different communities of Manipur," said the organisation in its statement.
