TSA mulls stir against setting up of Smart City in Holenphai

Strongly decrying the move of the government to acquire 3000 acres of land in Holenphai in Moreh for setting up Smart City in the village, the Thadou Students' Association (TSA) General Headquarters has warned of launching intense agitation in case the government fails to provide assurance that the proposed Smart City would not be set up in the village.
Addressing a press meet at Dewlahland in this regard, James Haokip, general secretary of TSA GHQ reiterated that the association had already imposed a 48-hour bandh along the National Highways with effect from November 19 midnight in protest against the plan of the government to acquire the said acres of land in Holenphai.
He expressed appreciation to those students' and civil society organizations for supporting the bandh call of the association.
Maintaining that TSA, Delhi Branch along with submitting a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi had staged a sit-in-protest in Delhi in condemnation of the move of the government, the secretary confided that the government has invited TSA for a talk on the matter.
Leaders of the association are discussing on the invitation sent by the government.
However, there would be no change in demand put up by the association.
Different forms of agitation would continue till the decision of the government to acquire 3000 acres of land in Holenphai for setting up Smart City is revoked, he said.
Alleging that police resorting to firing tear gas shells during the bandh called by the association in which an 11-year-old student namely Ritesh Paodel suffered grievous injuries on many parts of his body, the secretary of TSA GHQ demanded the government to bear medical expenditure for the injured student who is undergoing treatment at Christian Hospital, Dewlahland.
