Imphal, July 23 2023:
Assam's Cachar based United Rural Development Society advisor Dr Haorongbam Rajamani has said that around 40 Meeteis who fled Mizoram are taking shelter in a relief camp opened at Barak Musuem, Cachar.
Informing this to media persons at Manipur Press Club Sunday, Dr Rajamani said Meeteis living in Mizoram since the past many years have started to flee the state.
Around 2,000 Meetei families from Assam and Manipur have been living in various places of Mizoram and are engaged in various government and non government works, studies and business.
However, Meeteis living in Mizoram are now fleeing the state following an 'advisory' by former militants few days back, he added.
According to Dr Rajamani, Meeteis settled in Bantrapur, Cachar (Assam) are fully committed to safeguarding territorial integrity of Manipur and they have even contributed money to help displaced people in Manipur.
A four-member delegation of the United Rural Development Society is in Manipur since July 16 to help displaced Meetei people taking shelter in various relief camps.
The delegation has so far visited relief camps at Sugnu, Torbung, Tronglaobi, Terakhong-sangbi, Chairen Mangjil and Wangoo bazar and distributed relief materials.
