Imphal, April 23 2022:
Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) 2021-22 has opposed holding of a discourse on 'Hindi compulsory in the schools of North East India' on April 24 at Manipur University in the name of MUSU and some other organisations.
A joint release signed by MUSU secretary general Moirangthem Bobison Singh, vice president P Malemnganba Meitei, cultural secretary Thongam Buskin Singh and finance secretary Mayengbam Premananda termed the attempt of organising the event without any prior information or permission from MUSU as very unfortunate.
The decision of MU authority permitting to organise the programme in violation of an earlier agreement reached between the MU authority and MUSU that no private organisation can hold any function at MU is deplorable, it added.
MUSU announced that it is banning the event despite its good intention because the programme included MUSU's name without informing its executives which it takes as an insult to the Union and the students of MU as a whole.
If the discourse is organised then the responsibility of any unwanted incident should be borne by the MU authority and the organisation holding it, the release further cautioned.
