Imphal, November 22 2010: Troops of 11 AR under the aegis of Red Shield Division apprehended one UTLA cadre and a drug peddler with approximately 650 Kgs of Ganja on November 19 from village Longpi in Tamenglong district.

A press release from PIB(DW) said, an operational column from the battalion was launched on November 16 based on information of ganja trafficking from CC Pur to Jiribam through the area of Longpi village.

The column successfully tracked and intercepted the drug consignment along with the mastermind who was controlling movement of the consignment near Longpi village on November 18 .

The apprehended drug smuggler revealed that the militant cadre of UTLA was providing safe passage to the drug consignment in return for huge amount of money.

Based on this information the column carried out further search operations and apprehended UTLA cadre from Longpi village alongwith the authority letter and incriminating documents confirming his involvement in the deal.

The apprehension of these unlawful and anti national elements by the security forces has disrupted the drug route presently being used by drug mafias and has also busted the nexus between UTLA and drug dealers.
