Imphal, October 22 2021:
Volunteers of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) on Friday tried to storm the office of MOBC over alleged failure of the authorities concerned to release scholarship of the students despite repeated requests.
The union has been exerting pressure on the authorities concerned for releasing the scholarships of the students.
Personnel of Imphal West district police deployed in front of the office gate halted the agitating students.
Later, four members of AMSU were allowed to go and meet MOBC authority.
The protesters held placards inscribed with slogans like 'Don't waste the lives of students', 'Rights of students should not be violated', Release students' scholarship in time' and 'There is no use of scholarship if it is disbursed after completing academic session'.
Speaking to media persons, AMSU general secretary Bikramjit Thongam pointed out that non-disbursal of MOBC scholarship has caused tremendous inconveniences to the students.
Students have even started taking up manual works to help their families, he contended, while adding that the union has been demanding to ease problems faced by students in pursuing their education.
The protest was launched at MOBC office as the scholarship for the students are yet to be disbursed, Bikramjit continued.
While informing that the authority assured of releasing the scholarship, Bikramjit cautioned of more intense protests if the assurance is not translated into action.
