Senapati, February 22 2024:
With no positive response from the state government on the blockade called by Senapati District Truck Owners' Association (SDTOA) and Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union (SDTDU), the transport bodies warned of intensifying the agitation from Friday onwards.
A statement issued by the owners' association questioned the failure of the state government to bring solution even after the five days of agitation.
According to source, the district's SP and additional SP (highway) in the presence of Senapati SDO convened a joint meeting with the owners and drivers' union wherein the transporters were urged to reconsider the blockade call considering the present unrest situation and need for regular supply of essential commodities.
The district police also confided about already forwarding the case to higher authorities as the blockade is being enforced within the district whereas the incident occurred outside the district.

Speaking to media persons, SDTOA spokesperson K Adahrii denounced the state government for their inaction though the incident happened on February 16 and after five days after launch of the agitation.
Moreover, failure to book and arrest the culprits involved in the incident is unfortunate, he added.
Adahrii cautioned to intensify the agitation from Friday by not allowing empty truck to pass along the highway till their demands are fulfilled.
Urging the government to address possible suffering of the masses in case the agitation continues and take necessary action immediately, he stated that the state government should be responsible for any eventuality occurred due to the blockade.
It may be mentioned that five drivers and handymen were assaulted on the night of February 16 at Sekmai.
Consequently, the agitation began from February 18 after the owners' association and the drivers' union conducted a joint meeting demanding booking of the culprits involved in the crime, stopping rampant mushrooming of illegal tax collections from Kangpokpi to Imphal and to stop the Manipur Sand Union from collection of tax from trucks.
