Covid-19 claims eight more lives, newly infects 442

Even though the state government is claiming significant improvement in the Covid-19 situation in the state, the daily positivity rate shows a different story as the state continues to register double-digit positivity rate amid the failure of the government to improve the daily test capacity and the vaccination rate.
Government bulletins on Saturday reported 8 new fatalities along with 442 new positive cases out of 3645 samples tested, registering a positivity rate of 12.13 per cent against 10.21 per cent recorded on Friday.
Daily fatality counts also witnessed a gradual rise after a few days of respite.
However, the state is recording single digit fatality count for the last six consecutive days though there is no official confirmation on the number of deaths which the authority labelled as non-Covid.
The active caseload came down to 4139 out of which 1470 (36.63 per cent) are in home isolation, 1023 (24.72 per cent) in CHICs, 1011 (24.43 per cent) in CCCs and 635 (15.34 per cent) in hospitals.
Among the hospitalised patients, 123 are admitted to ICU/HDU wards, 244 are on oxygen support and 51 on ventilator support.
However, there is no report on number of patients on oxygen and ventilator support from JNIMS, Hand Hospital and LFS Covid Treatment Centre though these facilities have 189, 18 and 17 patients respectively.
At the same time, 23 patients are also on oxygen support in different CCCs.
As of Friday evening, 448 beds including 74 ICU/HDU beds in different hospitals, 2536 beds in different CCCs, and 296 beds (19 ICU/HDU) were available in district hospitals and CHCs.
So far, the state has recorded 81,257 positive cases and 1373 fatalities since the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic.
The current month saw an addition of 12,158 new cases and 191 fatalities out of which 2989 new cases and 47 fatalities were added in the last seven days alone.
According to official reports, the 442 new positive cases included 440 civilians (204 male & 236 female) and two personnel of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).
Their samples were tested at RIMS (25), JNIMS (60), District Hospitals (248) and other testing centres (109).The positive cases from among the general population are from Imphal East (69), Imphal West (187), Thoubal (18), Bishnupur (48), Kakching (17), Ukhrul (18), Chura-chandpur (17), Chandel (5), Senapati (10), Tamenglong (17), Noney (3), Kamjong (16) and Kangpokpi (15) .
The State Level Covid-19 Deaths Audit Committee reported 8 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours but no age and gender information have been provided.
The district wise fatalities are Imphal West (2), Imphal East (3), Thoubal (1), Bishnupur (1) and Senapati (1).The cumulative number of deaths has reached 1747.All the eight victims did not received vaccine and two of them did not have any co-morbid conditions.
In the last 24 hours, 598 patients were discharged from home isolation (220), RIMS (10), JNIMS (15), CCCs (l66) and CHICs (l87).The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 1,10,657 (general population - 1;06,569 and CAPF Eersonnel - 4,088).Number of recovered cases is 1,04,771 (general population - 1,00,715 and CAPF personnel - 4,056) and number of active cases is 4,139 (general population - 4,112 and CAPF personnel - 27).The recovery rate is 94.68 per cent.
In the last 24 hours, 1708 D-type and 367 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities.
Only 6449 vaccine doses were administered on Friday and the cumulative number of vaccinated individuals has reached 11,75,371.However, number of fully vaccinated individual is only 2,98,681 though there are 3,67,655 people eligible to get the second shot of Covid vaccine.
Meanwhile, 12 new positive cases were detected out of 77 samples tested from Friday 2 pm to Saturday 2 pm in Kakching district, registering a positivity rate of 15.58 per cent.
One case was detected at Ema Hospital, two at Jivan Hospital and nine at government RAT sites.
One is from Chandel and one from Thoubal district while the remaining are residents of Kakching district, according to DSO Kakching.
As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (37,295), Imphal East (24,731), Thoubal (8983), Churachandpur (9385), Kangpokpi (2570), Tamenglong (2989), Bishnupur (8462), Senapati (2001), Ukhrul (2102), Kakching (6031), Chandel (2122), Noney (955), Teng-noupal (1007), Jiribam (993), Kamjong (695) and Pherzawl (336) .
Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (578), Imphal East (409), Thoubal (162), Churachandpur (152), Kangpokpi (55), Tamenglong (13), Bishnupur (181), Senapati (7), Ukhrul (23), Kakching (108), Chandel (32), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (12), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (4), and Pherzawl (0).However, the figure does not match with data released by CMOs and DSOs of some districts.
Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 35,661 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 23,231 CPM.
Test rate has improved to 3,80,055 tests per million population against the national average of 3,61,604 TPM.
Case fatality rate stands at 1.58 per cent.
In the past 24 hours, 3645 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 12.13 per cent while the cumulative positivity rate rose to 9.38 per cent.
