Consultation workshop on SBSAP held

A consultation workshop on the 'Revision of the Manipur State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (SBSAP)' was conducted at the Platinum Jubilee Hall of Dhanamanjuri University on Friday.
The workshop was organised by Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, Dhanamanjuri University, and the Manipur Biodiversity Board as a part of the Indo-German Bilateral Cooperation Project, Protection and Sustainable Management of Aquatic Resources in the North-Eastern Himalayan Region of India (NERAQ), supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV) under the International Climate Initiative (IKI) .

According to release issued by Dhanamanjuri University, over 75 students from 26 colleges and universities participated in the consultation, contributing to the identification of key biodiversity challenges and the prioritisation of conservation efforts in line with national and global biodiversity goals.
Discussions centred on integration of research-driven and technology-based solutions to facilitate grassroots implementation of the SBSAP.
Speakers during the inaugural session included Prof M Bhubaneshori Devi, principal DMC Science; Prof L Hem-chandra Singh, dean School of Life Sciences, DMU; Dr Soibam Rebika, assistant conservator of forests, Manipur; and Prof I Linthoingambi Devi, head Department of Zoology, DMU.
They highlighted the essential role of youth in biodiversity conservation and encouraged active engagement in policy development, the release further said.
Participants discussed the significance of youth-driven initiatives in addressing regional biodiversity challenges, advocating for policy reforms, and leveraging digital tools for conservation efforts.
The workshop underscored the need for governmental and institutional support to foster innovation, awareness, and advocacy.
It reaffirmed the potential of youth-led conservation initiatives in promoting sustainable biodiversity management in Manipur, added the release.
