Imphal, August 20 2021:
Enquiring how many of the oxygen plants installed by the centre in the state have been utilised, union minister of state Dr Rk Ranjan has wondered whether there is any meaning of having ICU beds if Covid fatality rate could not be controlled despite increasing the number of beds.
He was speaking during a felicitation programme organised by RIMS at its mini auditorium here on Friday.
MoS Dr Rk Ranjan also unveiled a newly constructed Bio-medical Waste Incinerator plant on the occasion.
Speaking during the felicitation function, Dr Rk Ranjan contended that the failure to save Covid patients despite funding and equipment provided by Prime Minister Modi to the state is very embarrassing.
The complaints raised over improper care of patients in ICU have shown the failure to control Covid fatality rate, he opined.
Highlighting the need to upgrade RIMS to the level of a central institute, Ranjan said that there is the need not only to improve RIMS campus but also to set up branches of the institute in hill areas and include Japanese and Korean languages in nursing institutes.
He also called for making necessary preparations well in time and joining hands to combat Covid-19 third wave, if it spreads to the state.
Among others, the felicitation programme was attended by RIMS director Prof A Santa Singh and RIMS medical superintendent Prof H Priyosakhi Devi.
